Abstract:Hainan Province has made great progress in marine geological survey with the cooperation of the central and local governments. In order to further improve the effects of marine geological work in Hainan Province, the authors have reviewed the main progress of marine geological survey carried out in recent years, including four parts of marine geological survey, coastal zone survey, marine sand survey and island survey. 1∶1,000,000 scale marine geological survey has covered the whole South China Sea, and 3 sheets of 1∶250,000 marine geological survey have been carried out. The coastal zone and bay geological surveys have been carried out, and the general geological situation in less than 20 m depth coastal sea around Hainan Island has been identified. The survey scale of key coastal sections could reach 1∶50,000, and the geological resources and environmental conditions of the coastal zone have been systematically combed out. The investigation of marine sand resources mainly aims at zirconium-titanium sand ore and marine sand resources for construction, and the sediment types and distribution of marine sand potential in the shelf area around Hainan Island have been preliminarily identified. The areas with good deposit conditions have been investigated in detail, and a number of areas for development of marine sand resource have been found out. The offshore islands research mainly focused on the basic geological conditions, and based on current development and utilization status, some suggestions were put forward. A comprehensive land and sea geological survey of the Xisha Islands has been systematically carried out for the first time, a large number of basic geological data with a large scale have been obtained, and the formation and evolution process of these islands has been studied to provide reference for the island construction. Through geological work, plenty of basic marine geological data in Hainan Province have been obtained, and the marine resources and environment condition have been identified, which provides reliable geological support for the marine economic development of Hainan Province.
