Abstract In this paper, the regional geological background and characteristics of ore-bearing rock in Bainong copper-gold deposit had been studied. The characteristics of the copper-gold deposits were incompatible with porphyry deposit and were quite close with diorite and quartz diorite which were formed in early Cretaceous during subduction of Bangongco-Nujiang ocean. On these bases, we proposed that Bainong deposit was related to the diorite and was a skarn type deposit. These achievements further perfected deposit types in the study area and provided new data for copper-gold prospecting in Bangongco-Nujiang River metallogenic belt.
