Abstract Basic geological survey represents the principal work and core task for geological survey institutions across the world. In recent years, basic geological survey in China has made significant progress and achievements by centering on major needs of the nation and by following the principle of technology navigation, uniform deployment, highlights focus and broader implementation. This is reflected by the updated basic geological understanding, increased role in supporting and driving ore prospecting efforts, and improved innovation and service abilities that have continued to push basic geological survey toward modernization. The business orientation for subsequent basic geological survey efforts are proposed asrefining the nation's basic geological data update mechanism, creating geological survey means for the new era and building a modern geological survey technique and method system.
