Gas Hydrates in China
ZHANG Hong-tao, ZHANG Hai-qi, XU Zhen-qiang
Gas hydrate is a kind of potential new energy with large reserves. It is bound to be one of the best substitutes of traditional energy in the post petroleum era due to its extensive distribution, huge reserve, small burial depth, high energy efficiency and low pollution. Many countries, especially those lacking resources, pay much attention to the investigation and study of gas hydrates, and their key concerns are shifting from resource prospecting to exploiting. China is in the investigation and trial production stage and has discovered 3 deposits in the sea and land permafrost areas. The permafrost gas hydrate trial production has been successful in the Qilian Mountain and the marine gas hydrate production test is under planning and will be implemented in 2017. With the technical progress in prospecting and exploiting of gas hydrates and the implementation of supporting policies, commercial development and industrial production of gas hydrates will be achieved in China as has already been achieved in developed countries.

Progresses in China’s Basic Geological Survey and Potential Business Orientation
XIAO Gui-yi, MAO Xiao-chang, LI Min, ZHANG Zhi-yong, LIN Jian, HE Hao, QIU Shi-dong
Basic geological survey represents the principal work and core task for geological survey institutions across the world. In recent years, basic geological survey in China has made significant progress and achievements by centering on major needs of the nation and by following the principle of technology navigation, uniform deployment, highlights focus and broader implementation. This is reflected by the updated basic geological understanding, increased role in supporting and driving ore prospecting efforts, and improved innovation and service abilities that have continued to push basic geological survey toward modernization. The business orientation for subsequent basic geological survey efforts are proposed asrefining the nation's basic geological data update mechanism, creating geological survey means for the new era and building a modern geological survey technique and method system.

Progresses in the Strategic Exploration of Mineral Resources in China(2013—2014)
LONG Bao-lin, DONG Qing-ji, ZHANG Wei, WANG Li, YIN Cheng-ming
The strategic mineral resources survey is an important work in geology and mineral resources survey and evaluation special project which was organized by China Geological Survey .The work tightly focused on the "prospecting breakthrough and strategic action", highlighted major minerals and major metallogenetic zones for exploration, and developed the works including mineral prospect survey, oil and gas resource survey, strategic mineral resources survey and assessment, and ore prospecting in old mines. From 2013 to 2014, more than 900 mineral resources survey and assessment projects have been carried out, a number of important discoveries and progress have been achieved, commercial prospecting has been accelerated and pulled, and a set of major prospecting results have been achieved.

China-Tajikistan Cooperation: Geochemical Survey Achievements and Expectations in Pamir
LI Bao-qiang, ZHANG Jing, FAN Bao-cheng, LV Peng-rui, Rahmonbek
The Pamir Plateau was formed by a series of mountain ranges such as the Himalaya, Karakoram, Kunlun, Tianshan and Hindu Kush. Its unique geological location and complex tectonic evolution provide good metallogenic and geological conditions for the plateau. According to the Memorandum of Understanding on Geoscientific Cooperation signed by and between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan on November 25, 2010, both parties organized and implemented “geochemical surveys in the Pamir metallogenic belt in Tajikistan”. Geochemical mapping for an area of 30,000 square kilometers has been completed; a regional geochemical database has been established; and a series of geochemical maps have been made. The geological problems related to resource potential assessment in the area have been answered by geochemical means On this basis, the ore-prospecting map for 8 elements (groups) such as Ag, Au and Pb-Zn have been completed; 136 ore-prospecting areas have been delineated; and many geological problems have been solved. These achievements provide reliable and abundant basic geochemical data for undertaking geoscientific research, understanding potential evaluation information (such as species, geographical distribution and potential of high-quality resources), quickly narrowing the range of ore-prospecting targets, achieving ore-prospecting breakthroughs and changing the resource distribution patterns in the Pamir area in Tajikistan.

Progress of Uranium Mine Exploration and Development by China National Nuclear Corporation
CHEN Yue-hui
Since the new century, the uranium mine geological exploration of China has made great breakthroughs that the productivity has been stably improved, the scientific and technological innovation has gotgreater fruits, the foreigncooperation has been stably proceeding, and the overseas development has achieved active progress. Now, China is facing the important strategic opportunity of deepening reform and making innovation & development in the natural uranium industry. Accordingly, through analyzing the opportunities and problems in front of the uranium mine exploration and development of China,China National Nuclear Corporation proposed the development idea and work emphasisoncontinuously promoting the cooperation in the natural uranium industry, actively making the development in the coexistedand associated uranium mine resources, supplying theoverall service forthe mine construction and geologicaltechnique, and insisting on the principle of "go global" to realize both the domestic and overseas development.

Study on the Metallogenic Regularity of Important Metallogenic Belts in China and Adjacent Areas and Thinking about Overseas Geological Work
QIU Rui-zhao, TAN Yong-jie, ZHU Qun, LI Bao-qiang, LIN Fang-cheng, SHU Si-qi, CHEN Xiu-fa, QI Shi-jun, CHEN Yong-qing, JIANG Qi-gang
The work methods and achievements on the metallogenic regularities of key metallogenic belts in China and adjacent areas are presented in this paper. Based on the study of the key metallogenic belts, some important geological problems in China and adjacent areas are discussed, and basic ideas and methods are proposed for the research of overseas geology and mineral resources, that is, the sequence of tectonic-magmatic-mineralization events should be established and comparison should be made with major geological events.

Prospecting Innovation and Breakthroughs in Dapai Pb-Zn Deposit, Yongding County, Fujian Province
MAO Jian-ren, LIU Yang-pao, ZHANG Jian-chun, CHEN Guo-dong, TAO Jian-hua, ZHAO Xi-lin, ZHANG Qi-gu, WANG Dao-hua
Dapai old mine in Yongding county, Fujian Province, is a small-sized manganese deposit that has experienced many geological works. In this project, new theories and new methods were employed to guide the exploration work, and a large-scale lead-zinc polymetallic deposit was found accompanied by iron, copper, molybdenum, silver, manganese and so on. The mineral composition includes lead and zinc in the top, copper in the middle, and magnetite in the bottom. The genetic types change from strata bound-skarn type to strata bound-hydrothermal superimposed deformation type. The discovery of this deposit further enriches the genetic theories of regional ore deposits, and expands the way of regional prospecting.

HUANG Fen, ZHANG Chun-lai, YANG Hui, CAO Jian-hua, LI Wei, ZHOU Yun-chao
China, as the biggest energy consumer with large amounts of CO

emissions, is faced with an arduous task and responsibility for carbon emission reduction. According to previous studies, karst carbon sequestration flux has the same magnitude as forest carbon sequestration and soil carbon sequestration in the country. In order to make the best of karst carbon sequestration, it is necessary to further investigate and clarify the influencing factors and mechanisms of karst carbon sequestration, and to improve the estimation accuracy. In this paper, systematic discussions are made on the process of carbon cycle at watershed scale, with the focus on the biological effects of karst carbon cycle, study of the regulations of carbon dioxide recycle in hydrosphere, and assessment of the influence level and promote strength of allogenic water to karstification. By using a mathematical regression model, we estimated the carbon fluxes in karst region to improve the overall estimation precision, and proposed techniques to increase the karst potential carbon sequestration. All of these results provide fundamental support for the scientific estimation of karst carbon sequestration flux in China.
